Woman detained for 'subjecting daughters to FGM'

In Narok South Sub-County, a 30-year-old lady was detained for reportedly submitting her two children, ages 13 and 11, to the illegal Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

In the words of area's Deputy County Commissioner, Mr Felix Kisalu, the mother, her identity concealed because safeguard the confidentiality of the children, was detained when people in the community informed security agencies that she has already mutilated the girls in Ntiapiri village.

"It was alleged that two girls had FGM at one of the Manyattas inside the aforementioned village. Based on the tip, officers headed by the chief went to the dwelling and rescued the two youngsters "Mr Kisalu stipulated.

According to Mr Kisalu, the police were also able to apprehend their mother. Following the horrible assault, the two girls are still nursing wounds.

According to the administrator, the medical assessment at Naroosura community clinic revealed that indeed the girls had underwent FGM.

He stated that the juveniles are being kept at the Ololung'a Police Station till they are picked up by the County Children Officer for safe care. Their mother is being charged in court.

The administration has warned parents not to submit their daughters to FGM during this extended holiday.

"We are vigilant, so if we uncover anyone conducting FGM on their daughters, they will face legal action. Our chiefs are also on the alert "Mr Kisalu cautioned.
